Leeds United 'days not weeks' injury update on key man as attacker returns before Bournemouth

Daniel Farke has provided his Leeds United team news for Wednesday’s trip to Bournemouth.

Leeds United will travel to Bournemouth without one of their key players as they close in on Premier League safety.

The Whites fly south to face the Cherries on the back of three straight victories, including a first league victory at Old Trafford in 45 years.

But midfielder Anton Stach will not be on the plane for the midweek fixture. Stach's ankle was injured by a challenge that went unpunished in the FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham United and has missed the Premier League action since.

The initial medical opinion on his ligament problem was that it would be realistic to expect him back only in May. Stach is a major loss for Leeds having shone in the centre of midfield during his first season in English football. The German has four goals and three assists in the top flight.

Joe Rodon had a similar but not as severe ankle injury but having sat out the Manchester United game he returned as a substitute in Saturday's win over Wolves at Elland Road.

“Won’t travel with us”

Meanwhile Dan James's season has been ravaged by injury and the latest problem - an adductor strain - has kept him out of the last three games. The latter has returned to team training at Thorp Arch but boss Daniel Farke says the winger will need time to work on his sharpness.

"Seems like everyone who was available for the last game is available for this game," said Farke. "Daniel James back in team training, which is good news. He needs session after session. Joe Rodon was already involved before the last game, no set-back. Anton is not back in team training and won't travel with us."

Farke is hopeful of getting Stach back as soon as possible but cannot guarantee his compatriot will be in team training prior to the weekend and the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

"Difficult to say, we have to decide it day to day," he said. "It's more or less crunch time period, for the cup and also the league. I push that he comes back as soon as possible.

“Normally it would just be realistic to be back in May but we're heading into the end of April. Every day we get him back earlier is good. It's more or less a question of days, not weeks anymore. I hope I have him back as soon as possible, would be good. Don't want to put additional pressure on him or the medical department, he has to be fit and there with 100 per cent."
