Huge boost as star returns and big change as Farke names Leeds United team v Chelsea for FA Cup semi-final
Leeds United team news is in for today’s huge FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley.
Whites boss Daniel Farke has named his Leeds United team for this afternoon’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley which features huge boosts as stars returns and one big change.
United’s German international midfielder Anton Stach was thought likely to be out until May when suffering an ankle ligament injury in the quarter-final win at West Ham.
Stach had still not returned to training as of Thursday but Farke said at his pre-match press conference that Stach could still have a chance if he was to return over the next two days.
It looked a long shot but Stach indeed now returns to the Whites bench as Farke names a very strong starting line-up in which keeper Lucas Perri replaces Karl Darlow in the only change to the team.
Darlow has overtaken Perri as the club’s first choice keeper but Perri has started every FA Cup game en route to the semi-final and Farke hinted strongly at his pre-match press conference that Perri would start between the sticks.
Lukas Nmecha, though, who has started every FA Cup game upfront so far, is named on the bench as Dominic Calvert-Lewin starts his first game in the competition for the Whites.
Defenders Jayden Bogle and Sebastiaan Bornauw were doubts for today’s game with injuries suffered before or during Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth but both have made it, Bogle keeping his place in the side and Bornauw on the bench.
Bogle suffered a blow to his foot in the first-half of Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth and was taken off at the break. Bornauw, meanwhile, rolled his ankle in the warm-up for the game. Farke, though, was hoping that both would be back for today’s semi-final.
With the recently returned Joe Rodon and Dan James also on the bench, Ilia Gruev is the sole Leeds absentee, the Bulgarian midfielder’s season ended with a meniscus injury suffered in training this week.
Star Chelsea pair Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer both faced late fitness checks after recent injuries and whilst Joao Pedro starts, Palmer only makes the bench.
