Daniel Farke's brilliant message for Leeds United fans for Man Utd Roses derby at Elland Road with trap plea

Daniel Farke’s message for Leeds United’s fans ahead of Sunday’s huge Roses derby against arch rivals Manchester United at Elland Road.

Knowing them now as he does, Daniel Farke says he doesn’t really need to give a message to Leeds United’s supporters for Sunday’s Roses derby against arch rivals Manchester United at Elland Road.

But in the end Farke has nailed it in giving one anyway, saluting the fan base as the club’s biggest asset who will play a “crucial” role as the Whites seek another big first against the Red Devils - but only with 100 per cent on and off the pitch.

Whites boss Farke has already put himself into Roses rivalry folklore having led Leeds to a first league win at Old Trafford since 1981 in last April’s Premier League clash in which Noah Okafor’s brace gave the Whites a brilliant 2-1 success.

Six months later, Leeds will now look to record a first home victory against the Red Devils since September 2002 in Sunday’s 2pm kick-off at Elland Road in which Farke’s side have been chalked up as the most likely winners with the bookmakers after their fine start to the new campaign.

Farke, though, is urging fans not to fall into the “trap” of being seen as ‘favourites’, warning that his side will get nothing without 100 per cent both on the pitch - and in the stands.

The Whites boss says United’s fanbase is, has been and always will be the club’s biggest strength, so much so that the German felt he didn’t really need to give a message to supporters for Sunday’s Roses derby.

But thankfully Farke gave anyone way, which encapsulated everything that Leeds United and indeed the city of Leeds is all about.

Asked by the YEP just how important the home support would be on Sunday and if he had a message for the fans, Farke said: “Crucial, they are crucial for us like always.

"This club can just be successful when this club is united, united with our supporters.

"Our supporters are the biggest asset and the biggest strength of this club, they were the biggest strength 30 years ago and will be the biggest strength within 30 years so we need them, away games, home games, especially also in the home games.

"If we want to keep our fortress-like a holy fortress and make it so, so difficult for everyone to win points there, then we need our supporters also to fight together with us.

"But what I would recommend is don't go into this trap”

"If I need to give a message, I don't think they need a message here, I have also experienced enough also with this club, they go with this club through thick and thin.

"But what I would recommend is don't go into this trap that more or less like 'yeah we are the favourites, it will be an easy game.'

"No, if we are not 100 per cent there, if we are not 100 per cent on it, if we are not 100 per cent in the duels with intensity and really we give our everything on the pitch, but also in the stands, if we are not fighting for everything and expecting an easy game and we can just enjoy the game then we will have no chance.

"It's more like we will just be successful once we are what Leeds the whole region is about. It's always about hard and honest work and desire and being competitive.

“We have learned also to fight for our rights and to fight for our success”

"It's also a tough region anyhow and a great region but we have learned also to fight for our rights and to fight for our success, and this is what we have to do on the pitch, off the pitch and for that everyone has to be has to be aware.

"It's to be a Leeds United supporter, to be a Leeds United member, we never do it the easy way anyhow.

"You always have to have setbacks on your way and expect also some adversity.

"This will also happen on Sunday. But altogether, if we stick together and show this unity and show this graft then all together we have the chance to be perhaps exhausted on the floor after the game but also in a good mood."
