Huge surprise return but new star missing as Farke names Leeds United team vs Man United

Leeds United team news is in for today’s lunchtime showdown against Manchester United at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has named his Leeds United team for today’s Premier League showdown against arch rivals Manchester United at Elland Road and a bold Ethan Ampadu replacement.

Captain Ampadu is suspended having picked up a fifth booking of the season in the New Year’s Day draw at Liverpool and Farke has effectively replaced Ampadu with Noah Okafor as part of an attacking line-up against the Red Devils.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin also comes back into the XI as Lukas Nmecha drops to the bench and the banned Ampadu misses out altogether.

In a huge surprise, Sean Longstaff also returns earlier than expected from a calf injury to make the bench but Jayden Bogle is missing altogether as James Justin again starts at right back.

Bogle has a minor calf issue and young winger Sam Chambers gets a place on the bench with key men missing.

Farke made four changes to his side for the New Year’s Day clash at Liverpool as Justin, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Ilia Gruev and Nmecha all came into the side.

Calvert-Lewin, Bogle and Okafor all dropped to the bench amid a busy schedule whilst the injured Joe Rodon missed out altogether having suffered ankle ligament damage in the end-of-year 1-1 draw at Sunderland.

Rodon is facing around three weeks out Farke was then dealt a new blow in the draw at Liverpool as Ampadu picked up a fifth booking of the season which meant an immediate one-game ban.

Bornauw and Gruev both went off in the closing stages of the draw at Liverpool but both were experiencing cramp although Farke said checks will be needed across the board after such a quick turnaround.

In addition to Rodon, Dan James (hamstring) remains out injured.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has made one change to the team that started the 1-1 draw at home to Wolves as Leny Yoro replaces Joshua Zirkzee who drops to the bench.

Captain Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Matthijs de Ligt are all out injured whilst Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui are all away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
