"We were" - Daniel Farke's Leeds United vs Man United verdict and world class new Whites player prediction
Leeds United shared a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in Dublin before losing on penalties for the Boyle Sports Cup.
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke gave a thumbs up to his side’s display in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United in Dublin followed by a world class new Whites player prediction.
Leeds took on the Red Devils at Croke Park in the club’s penultimate pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening in which Farke gave a debut to new £40m record signing goalkeeper James Trafford who started between the sticks.
Leeds fell behind in the 16th minute as Bryan Mbeumo got away from Jaka Bijol down the left channel and squared to Joshua Zirkzee who swept a clinical finish past Trafford.
Leeds, though, drew level just before the half hour mark with Trafford playing a part in the goal, the alert keeper clearing a long ball which led to Dan James winning possession en route to setting up Brenden Aaronson who finished to make it 1-1 in the 29th minute.
Farke then made ten changes at the break and Leeds quickly threatened to score a second goal but the contest ended in a 1-1 draw which meant penalties to decide the winner of the Boyle Sports Cup.
Misses from Harry Wilson and James Justin led to the Red Devils winning 5-4 on spot kicks but Farke was pleased with his side’s display and quickly predicted big things in the long term from new record signing Trafford in nets.
Speaking post match to ITV, Farke said of the game: “A good friendly, good for both teams.
"A good game of football I think and in the end probably a deserved draw although I got the feeling in the second half especially that we were also pushing for winning this game.
"But it was a fantastic night for our supporters anyhow, a great atmosphere, a great stage, I think all the supporters loved this game here today and to come away with a draw against a good side like Man United is also good for the confidence.
"We keep our unbeaten run of pre season going and it's a good feeling."
“If he keeps going like this he will rise to the top”
Asked about what Leeds had signed in Trafford, Farke declared: “A player who has the potential to be one day world class.
"There is no doubt that if he keeps going like this he will rise to the top, a young player who has excelled already at such a young age at Championship level.
"That was the reason anyhow that Man City brought him back and we were so desperate not just this season but also before at some stage to sign him and finally it went through.
"I got the feeling he can make a big difference and it's a big signing for us, especially a club in our situation in the second year after promotion, a top class no 1 is crucial.
"I pushed very had for this transfer and finally it was made and I am happy that we have him.
"He had just two training sessions together with us so far, just back in training yesterday for the first time.
"It was a good debut and we are all happy that we have him."
