Daniel Farke's Leeds United team news for West Ham FA Cup clash: Dominic Calvert-Lewin scan, Anton Stach issue

Leeds United team news for Sunday’s return to action in the FA Cup quarter-finals at West Ham.

Whites boss Daniel Farke has provided his Leeds United team news for Sunday’s return to action in the FA Cup quarter-finals at West Ham.

Farke has revealed that striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a doubt due to a hamstring issue which has been scanned as a precaution but midfielder Anton Stach is expected to be fine after a hip injury.

Winger Noah Okafor’s return from a hamstring injury left Farke with a fully fit squad for the home clash against Brentford in the last game before the international break for which left back Gabriel Gudmundsson was the sole absentee due to suspension.

Gudmundsson served a one-match ban for his dismissal for a second yellow card in the goalless draw at Crystal Palace and was then one of a dozen Leeds players to head out on international duty.

Gudmundsson suffered a bang to his knee in last Thursday’s World Cup qualifying play-offs semi-final against Ukraine which led to him being substituted but declared himself fine post-match and then played the full duration of Tuesday’s play-offs final victory against Poland.

Slight injury concerns surrounded two more of United’s internationals in Okafor and Dan James for Switzerland and Wales respectively.

Okafor was an unused substitute for Friday’s international friendly against Germany, after which there were reports that he had suffered a knock in the warm-up.

Okafor was then not involved for Tuesday’s second friendly against Norway.

James, meanwhile, who has recently returned from a hamstring tendon injury, scored and played 84 minutes of Thursday’s heart-breaking World Cup qualifier defeat to Bosnia on penalties.

Boss Craig Bellamy later revealed that he wanted James to play the full 120 minutes but that it was not possible due to the winger cramping and that his condition was being checked.

James then dropped to the bench for Tuesday’s friendly against Northern Ireland but was brought on for the second half of the 1-1 draw and played 45 minutes.

Another key Leeds player in striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his England return with second-half minutes in Friday’s friendly against Uruguay but the Whites no 9 was then one of eight players to leave the camp ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Japan.

The YEP understands that his departure was pre-planned as boss Thomas Tuchel trimmed down his squad.

But speaking at Thursday’s pre-West Ham FA Cup press conference, Farke revealed that Calvert-Lewin had suffered a hamstring injury in training and that he was unable to say if the striker would be fit for Sunday’s game at the London Stadium.

Stach, meanwhile, said Farke, had to miss a day of training this week due to a hip issue but the German has since returned to training and is expected to be okay for Sunday’s cup clash.

Providing his team news, Farke said: “Everyone is back from today. A handful just having a recovery session. But back in team training tomorrow.

“There’s a few minor issues and little knocks and we will take some late decisions on who will travel with us.

“Anton Stach was struggling with some hip problems yesterday but he shouldn’t be a problem. Dominic ended yesterday's training session earlier because he felt some hamstring problems. Same today, not involved so a question mark behind his availability.

“Hopefully it’s just a minor problem. He’s had lots of travelling, different circumstances, sometimes it can happen.

“Yesterday in training he felt a little problem with his hamstring and didn’t want to risk anything. Today we decided to scan him as a precaution. I hope he’s back in team training tomorrow but we have to assess him. I hope he’s with us for Sunday.”
