Historic rivalry renewed at Wembley as Leeds United discover opponents in FA Cup semi-final draw
The draw for the FA Cup semi-finals has been made.
Leeds United have discovered their opponents in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley after their West Ham quarter-final epic.
Daniel Farke’s Whites booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1987 after coming through an absolutely epic quarter-final at West Ham on penalties.
Leeds looked to be cruising through for a normal time 2-0 victory but West Ham netted twice in added time to force extra time after a barely believable 2-2 draw.
The contest was then decided on penalties, Pascal Struijk converting the winning spot kick to put Leeds in the draw for the semi-finals which took place 15 minutes after full time.
Leeds entered the draw along with Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Chelsea but also Championship side Southampton who knocked out Arsenal on Saturday night.
Chelsea were the first team drawn out of the hat, followed by Leeds, the historic bitter rivals set to lock horns for a place in the FA Cup final over the last weekend of the month.
Manchester City meanwhile, already now very strong favourites to win the trophy after Arsenal’s exit, will face Southampton for another place in the final.
Both semi-finals will be played at Wembley, on Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26.
Leeds were due to visit Bournemouth in a Premier League clash on the Saturday in a 3pm kick-off but the game will now be moved forward to the previous midweek.
