Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin eyes two targets with goals tally declaration on joining quartet
Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin bagged his tenth goal of the season in Friday night’s win against Nottingham Forest.
Thriving Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has set his sights on a dual aim with a declaration on his goals tally upon joining a quartet of stars.
England-capped striker Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds as a free agent signing in the summer transfer window and six months later the striker sits joint-fourth in the Premier League’s top scorer charts.
The 28-year-old opened his account with United’s first goal in a 3-1 comeback success at September’s hosts Wolves and then ended a run of seven fixtures without a goal by scoring an amazing seven in his side’s next six games.
The striker then bagged his ninth goal of the season in last month’s 4-3 defeat at Newcastle United and Calvert-Lewin took his tally to ten with a clever chested finish in Friday night’s 3-1 success at home to Nottingham Forest.
With a third of the season still remaining, the Whites striker is already into double figures and one of just four men in the country’s top flight to do so alongside Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo plus Brentford’s Igor Thiago and Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike.
Calvert-Lewin, though, says he is now “hungry” for more, the striker declaring that getting to double figures has to be the minimum aim for a Premier League no 9 and now eyeing the dual aim of adding to his growing goals tally and firing his team further up the league.
“I am hungry for more”
Speaking to Leeds United club media after Friday’s success, Calvert-Lewin said: “I think when you go into any season, double figures is what you have got to aim for as a number nine in this league.
“So, it is nice to obviously hit that milestone at the moment but I am hungry for more. I am striving every day to improve and just keep scoring more goals.”
Reflecting on Friday’s victory but the aim of now kicking on further, Calvert-Lewin reasoned: “Everything came together, an all-round performance from the team. I think just good discipline, well-managed in the game and things obviously went our way on the night.
“The conditions were difficult and we knew what they were going to bring. We battled well and obviously won the game.
“We just did what we have been doing for the past few weeks, just executing our game plan on the ball and off the ball, trying to dominate possession and just manage the game.
“I think we did that very well. Again, not getting carried away, it is a massive three points for us but one we can take confidence from.
“It is a step in the right direction and we will just be working, pushing, motivated even more to keep going up the table.”
