"You can never" - Dominik Szoboszlai makes Leeds United declaration with admission after Liverpool draw

Dominik Szoboszlai’s 80th-minute strike looked to have given Liverpool all three points against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai made an honest Leeds United match admission after seeing three points become one at Elland Road.

Hungarian international ace Szoboszlai continued his run of starting every Premier League game so far this season in Saturday evening’s clash at Leeds who looked set for defeat as the Reds led 2-0 shortly after the break.

A quickfire brace from Hugo Ekitike had Arne Slot’s side two goals up within five minutes of the restart but a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty and Anton Stach strike then saw Leeds net twice themselves in just three minutes.

Szoboszlai then went up the other end to put the Reds 3-2 in front again and seemingly back on course for victory only for Ao Tanaka to net a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser which sealed Daniel Farke’s Whites a 3-3 draw.

Speaking post match to Sky Sports, Szoboszlai delivered an honest assessment of the night’s events, admitting that Liverpool thought they were heading for victory and that he did not know what happened after going 2-0 up.

“The kind of game where you can never underestimate who you play against”

The midfielder also declared that his team had specifically made sure before the contest that the clash at Leeds was a game in which the Reds could not underestimate the opposition.

As quoted by Liverpool’s official website, Szoboszlai said: “I don't know what happened after 2-0, I think we thought that the game is over.

“We just made sure at the beginning of the game that this is the kind of game where you can never underestimate who you play against.

“Maybe after the penalty they just had their momentum, scored the 2-2.

“We came back, so it's a good reaction from the team again. Just conceding again from a set-piece is not the nicest way.

“We showed a good reaction, we showed our mentality. We wanted to come back because we knew we made a mistake in a way that we let them come back for 2-2 [and] we scored the 3-2. Nothing to say about the result.”
