Leeds United Elland Road expansion latest: 'Momentous' statement, Paraag Marathe plea, new video update
The latest news surrounding Leeds United's expansion of Elland Road including a message from chairman Paraag Marathe.
Leeds United’s expansion of Elland Road is well underway following the conclusion of their 2025/26 campaign.
Daniel Farke’s side were relatively comfortable in the end, their 47 points enough for 14th place. Club chiefs can now start putting plans in place for a big summer of recruitment as shovels continue to hit the ground in LS11.
There are already clear signs of work getting underway and here at the YEP, we’ll keep you up to date throughout the summer. Below is the latest on Elland Road including a message from chairman Paraag Marathe.
Leeds United statement
Leeds kicked off the month of June with a statement to officially mark the start of their Elland Road ‘enhancement’ process. The club said development work already underway heralds a ‘momentous moment’ in Leeds United history.
A statement read: "The enhancement of Leeds United’s iconic Elland Road Stadium is officially under way. Our home, our future and a momentous moment in the club’s 106-year existence, work has now begun on the West Stand starting with the removal of the Banqueting Suite, shaping the future of Elland Road.
"Executives from Leeds United, the Leeds United Foundation and Leeds City Council, along with club ambassadors Stuart Dallas, Tony Dorigo and Eddie Gray were all in attendance to mark the occasion. The new West Stand, which will be built over the top of the existing structure, is the first phase of transforming Elland Road into a UEFA Category 4 stadium, placing it among the elite venues in European football.
"Increasing the capacity of the stadium is vital for the future, with the club having a now strong 32,000 Season Ticket waiting list. It will also allow Leeds United, alongside civic partners, to bid to host major international tournaments and showcase events in the future, generating significant cultural and economic value for the Leeds City Region."
Paraag Marathe fan plea
Whites chairman Paraag Marathe recently spoke with the YEP and other local media down in London. He discussed a number of important topics and even announced a new four-year contract for captain Ethan Ampadu.
Naturally, the development of Elland Road came up in the wide-ranging interview. Marathe was asked to provide an update on the expansion works and some clarity on what fans sitting in the West Stand might expect come next season.
"No doubt there'll be some disruptions here and there,” Marathe admitted. “The ticket office is gone. I know where we are up in the chairman's area, there's going to be some disruptions as well. I think that it's all by design because we're trying not to compromise or sacrifice seats during games during the season.
"It's all being done over a sort of a longer period of time so that we keep as many fans in their seats during matches. So there will be disruptions and probably some annoyances and hopefully everybody can just bear with us as we get through."
New drone footage
Video evidence of the immediate Elland Road work emerged last week in the form of drone footage shot from high above. The video, posted on the CC Overview YouTube channel which specialises in stadium expansions and environmental issues, has shown how the landscape has already changed.
The Portakabins used to house away teams from the Premier League and Championship on their visits to Elland Road have been removed, while the ticket office has been partly demolished. A building that housed some of the LUTV operations was also on its way down.
Most notably, the massive floodlights had also come down while crests had been taken off the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand. A temporary structure behind the North Stand, which is expected to host corporate facilities during the works, was already going up before the end of the season.
