'Very' - Ethan Ampadu on lessons Leeds United must learn from, what squad have done and Liverpool win verdict

Captain Ethan Amapdu led Leeds United to a 4-2 victory against Liverpool in the final game of their USA tour.

Captain Ethan Ampadu has given a glowing verdict of Leeds United’s pre-season tour of America and comeback victory against Liverpool - but with lessons to learn from the 4-2 win against the Reds.

Daniel Farke’s Whites went into Sunday evening’s final USA friendly against Liverpool in Chicago with one win and one defeat to their name in America, Leeds having started the tour with a 3-2 defeat to Wrexham before recording a 1-0 victory against Sunderland.

Another defeat then looked on the way against Liverpool who led 2-0 at the interval of Sunday evening’s clash at Soldier Field but Farke’s side produced a brilliant second half comeback to ultimately leave with a 4-2 victory.

Speaking post match to LUTV, Ampadu said his team were very proud of their comeback that left a good feeling within the group as they depart the States but the skipper admitted there was disappointment with the way his men fell 2-0 behind.

“Important for us”

Ampadu, though, highlighted how pre-season offered Leeds the chance to learn from those mistakes, the skipper saluting a very positive tour as a whole for a squad who have gelled in the USA.

“It is nice to end the whole tour with a win,” said Ampadu to LUTV and as quoted by Leeds United’s official website.

“Whether we had won or not today, I think it was a very productive trip for us. We got lots of hard work in, lots of bonding in.

“We gelled as a unit, which is what you want to do in these trips. But then, to finish it off in style – the second half better than the first half – was important for us.

“Even during the season, there will be work to do but that is what you try and do in pre-season, try and get yourself to the best standing you can come first game of the season.

“And we have still got a few pre-season games left to get more minutes, get the energy in the legs, and to gel even more to set us up for a good start.”

“Better to learn those lessons in pre-season rather than in the season”

Reflecting on a real game of two halves against Liverpool, Ampadu mused: “I think sometimes when you have a trip and it is pre-season, sometimes you can have a half like that.

“We adjusted a little bit, changed not too much, but changed little bits to help us get back in the game.

“Because we are all professionals, we wanted to win the game and we are grateful we did. We were disappointed with the goals we conceded.

“We could have done a lot better with them. But that is better to learn those lessons in pre-season rather than in the season.

“But, yeah, we are very, very proud of the way we got back into the game, whether it was a friendly or not. So, it has left us a good feeling and good end to this trip.”
