"In the whole division" - Leeds United star's bullish claim and new target with Sunderland warning
A Leeds United star has declared the new Whites target ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Sunderland.
Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has made a bullish Leeds United declaration and outlined a new target but with a big Sunderland warning.
Daniel Farke’s Whites are quickly back in action at Elland Road with Tuesday night’s Premier League visit of Sunderland, just three days on from the team’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City which marked a rare loss under the LS11 lights.
Ampadu, though, has saluted his team’s overall display against Pep Guardiola’s title-chasers, declaring that not many teams in the whole division would be able to create as many chances as his team did, particularly in the first half.
Ultimately, none of them were taken, but Ampadu has now declared the new aim to start a new strong run of home form starting with Tuesday’s visit of Sunderland, despite firing a warning about the threat the Black Cats will offer.
Writing in his captain’s column of the match night programme, Ampadu declared: “Last Saturday against Manchester City, we all felt we delivered a really good performance and we were left disappointed not to take anything from the game.
“Again, as I have mentioned in recent weeks, it shows how far we have come as a collective to be going up against one of the best teams in the world and being left frustrated after the full-time whistle, having played so well.
“I don’t think many teams in the whole division would be able to do that”
“In the first half, particularly, I felt we created lots of chances and I don’t think many teams in the whole division would be able to do that against Manchester City. Sadly, though, we conceded at the worst possible time. There is nothing worse for us than conceding just before returning to the changing room.
“Now, looking ahead to tonight’s game, our aim is first and foremost to try to get three points.
“Our record at Elland Road has been phenomenal and despite our impressive run in night matches coming to an end against Manchester City, we now have the opportunity to start a new run and we hope we can be as successful in this one as we were in the last.
“However, we know it won’t be easy coming up against another really good side in Sunderland. They have proven throughout the course of the season that they deserve to be in the Premier League and deserve to remain in the division at the end of it.”
