"Full of" - Leeds United star on club's second season in Premier League with aim, warning and new faces view
A Leeds United star has declared aims on the team’s second season back in the Premier League.
Whites captain Ethan Ampadu has declared Leeds United’s second season in the Premier League aims with a cautious warning but glowing new faces view.
Leeds are now heading for a second season back in the country’s top flight for which club captain Ampadu will now be in his fourth year at the club having signed a new deal on Thursday that runs until the summer of 2030.
Ampadu’s first words after signing his new deal made it clear there was no hesitation about committing his future to the club - and nor is there any holding back on declaring the team’s aims for the 2026-27 campiagn.
In a note of caution, Ampadu is keen to highlight that many teams find their second season back in the country’s top flight more difficult than the first, the skipper knowing the primary objective first and foremost is once again to survive.
Ampadu, though, hopes his team can now ultimately kick on having successfully navigated their first season back, helped by a welcoming atmosphere for new faces arriving over the summer.
"We're full of confidence that we can do”
Speaking to LUTV after signing his new four-year deal, Ampadu was asked on whether the next aim was to progress as a Premier League said and declared: “We'd love to.
"We're full of confidence that we can do. We're also realistic that we still have to stay in the Premier League again.
"For some teams it's been shown that the second year can maybe even be a little bit harder.
"But we want to progress, we want to build, we want to build on the positivity and the environment and the atmosphere that has been created for especially the last second half of the season.
"I think as a club we want to do that and me personally I want to do that as well."
Pressed on the fact that new faces will arrive and the need to help them settle in - something that went very well last summer - Ampadu reasoned: "Definitely, we try to be, I think that's the best way to be.
"It's on both parts, it's us, players that are here, welcoming new faces but it's also a testament to all the new faces that came in and how they wanted to be a part of it and how they wanted to get stuck in and into the Leeds way.
"It's a testament to both sides to get that collective going."
