Leeds United fans close to amazing Everton game agreement with new stadium hope and top two suggestion
Leeds United’s fans are close to an amazing agreement for Monday night’s clash at Everton.
Leeds United face another huge game in their quest for Premier League survival with a Monday night trip to Everton - but what do the club’s fans think?
Here is what our YEP Jury have had to say on Monday’s 8pm kick-off with the quintet very close to amazingly all predicting exactly the same scoreline amid plenty of hope in the home team’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium and a suggestion to play Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha together up tops.
ANDY RHODES
Following last weekend’s grind of a result against Fulham, Daniel Farke will be hoping his Leeds United side can win again on Merseyside, and make this a little more comfortable while they’re at it.
Everton are bang in mid-table but their form suggests they are better on the road than at their new home. In fact, they’ve notched just two home wins since October.
There’s an opportunity, then, for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and company to earn another three points.
DCL will be keen to get back on the scoresheet after a fairly barren run by his standards of one goal in four games.
Brenden Aaronson, meanwhile, will be hoping to maintain his good run of form.
This fixture marks the beginning of a potentially crucial run of games for the Whites.
Arsenal follow this one, before games against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Farke will have identified the games he thinks are more winnable, and you have to imagine that this is one of them.
Prediction: Everton 1 Leeds United 1.
‘At the Hill Dickinson Stadium, though, they have been less successful’
DAVID WATKINS
Finally, we get to visit the new Everton stadium, and let’s hope we can get a positive result after so many disappointing trips to Goodison.
We managed just a single victory at Goodison in our last 16 visits, and we weren’t even allowed in to watch that one, thanks to Covid.
The Toffees’ results are nothing if not erratic.
Away from their sparkly new stadium, they have posted some fine results lately, including a win last time out against high-flying Aston Villa. Before that, they won at Nottingham Forest.
At the Hill Dickinson Stadium, though, they have been less successful.
They were dumped out of the FA Cup at home by Sunderland, albeit after penalties, while in their most recent Premier League games, they have drawn with Wolves, lost to Brentford (conceding four), and lost by a single goal against Arsenal.
Indeed, Everton have lost as many home league games this season as they have won.
The counterbalance, of course, is that Leeds’ away form has not been great – only Burnley and Wolves have picked up fewer points away from home. But our most recent performances away from Elland Road have been much improved, so here’s hoping we keep that run going.
Prediction: Everton 1 Leeds United 1.
‘He could be very useful alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin’
KEITH INGHAM
Rumours still abound that Leeds United are looking to boost their squad but it may be that a player or two may have to leave for this to happen.
They have already brought in Facundo Bouanotte and the Argentinian may have to wait for a chance to impress his new manager due to the form of Brendan Aaronson.
Daniel Farke has said that Jakob Bijol could be out for a few weeks but was hopeful that Anton Stach may be fit to be included in the squad for Everton. If he’s not fit it will probably be the same starting line up that faced Fulham.
It would be interesting if Farke promotes Lukas Nmecha and drops Noah Okafor to the bench.
The striker did enough and scored a great goal in the minutes he was on to show he could be very useful alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Okafor, in my opinion, has drifted in and out of games recently but maybe against a tall Everton backline, this could be a great time to play two ‘big men’ up top at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton’s away form is better than their home results so maybe Leeds could at least come away with a point.
A win would be fantastic.
Prediction: Everton 1 Leeds United 1.
‘It is a good time to play them’
NEIL GREWER
The Hill Dickinson Stadium has not proved to be the fortress it was hoped to be for Everton and Leeds go there – for their stadium debut – in optimistic mood following recent results and performances.
Everton have some key players injured, especially Kiernan Dewsbury Hall and Jack Grealish – real game changers – so as in August, it is a good time to play them.
Daniel Farke continues to utilise a new-found tactical flexibility and squad depth currently allows injuries to be covered adequately.
For example, the fantastic form of James Justin covering several positions recently and likely to start again in place of the injured Jaka Bijol.
What a great signing Justin has proved to be. Plus there is new signing Facundo Buonanotte giving another option from the bench.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will relish the opportunity to score against his old team and given his recent form and goals tally, I expect all Evertonians will be predicting him to score.
I expect a fairly open game with Leeds eyeing up a possible away victory although Everton are well organised and strong in defence, so a point will be a great result.
Prediction: Everton 1 Leeds United 1.
‘Rarely pretty to watch’
MIKE GILL
After the heart-warming win against Fulham at Elland Road, United head west to make their first visit to Everton's new ground on the banks of the Mersey.
The Toffees sit in a respectable mid-table but their home form is slightly poorer than their away performances, so the Hill Dickinson Stadium is no Elland Road.
David Moyes is an experienced and combative manager. His sides are results-focused and rarely pretty to watch.
United’s clean sheet against Fulham should put them in good heart.
A return to his former employers by Dominic Calvert-Lewin adds some more spice to the proceedings and we may get our first look at Facundo Buonanotte but it is going to be tough.
All United’s close rivals will have played their matches at the weekend and so they will know exactly where they stand.
Maybe it's time for the Whites to be taking a quick look up the table as well as down.
One thing for sure, with continued injury worries. Daniel Farke will not be allowing them to get carried away with themselves.
It's high time for three points on the road and why not?
Prediction: Everton 1 Leeds United 2.
