'Leeds United fans really do look after their own': Support for festive foodbank appeal
Leeds United fans have been praised for putting side before self to support vulnerable people who have struggled to feed their families at Christmas.
Generous donations have flooded the annual Leeds Fans Foodbank which has pitched up outside Elland Road throughout the season.
Volunteers have praised the generosity of fans who have donated food ahead of the matches to support families who are struggling to make ends meet.
And it’s not just the home fans that have dug deep - away fans have also shown their support and donated to the foodbank.
Leeds Fans Foodbank volunteers told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “On behalf of everyone at the Foodbanks, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing Leeds United supporters.
“Their generosity has been overwhelming - every donation made has helped us put food on the table for families who are struggling.
“It’s inspiring to see how the passion that fills our stands also fills our shelves, reminding us that football is about standing together as a community."
Leeds United Supporters' Trust added: “We are once again overwhelmed at the success of the festive foodbank drive, with thousands of Leeds United fans donating week in week out, but they always step up at Christmas to help families across the city that may otherwise struggle to put food on the table.
“We also thank Leeds United for their support and donation from their staff which was dropped off by Sean Longstaff.
“The foodbank continues to be part and parcel of our matchdays, to which we also get support from many away fans, as we know - Leeds United fans really do look after their own and continue to be really generous with their donations”
