Leeds United's struggling Premier League rivals dealt hammer blow with star man out until February
Struggling Leeds United rivals have been dealt a hammer blow.
Leeds United’s struggling Premier League rivals Fulham have been dealt a hammer injury blow with a star man set to be out until February.
Established Premier League club Fulham are now in their fourth consecutive season in English football’s top flight but the Cottagers are level on points with Leeds and just one point clear of the dropzone.
Marco Silva’s side have struggled for goals and the Cottagers are now set to be without main striker Rodrigo Muniz until February.
Brazilian star Muniz was one of United’s own top targets in the summer but the Whites moved on amid Fulham’s reluctance to sell and a reported £50million-plus price-tag.
Muniz, though, suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-0 defeat at Everton at the end of last month which the club announced would need surgery.
“Really bad news for us. A long period for him to be out”
Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s hosting of Sunderland, boss Silva revealed that the 28-year-old would likely now be facing around three months out.
As quoted by Fulham’s official website, Silva said: “Rodrigo had surgery last Saturday.
“Really bad news for us. A long period for him to be out and for him to have a setback in his first game back is painful for him.
“He’s a player that has big aims for the season. It’s sad for him, his teammates and all staff at the football club.
“In terms of time scale, the middle of February is probably the time for him. If he can come back earlier then that’s better for us, but it’s a long period without him.”
