Leeds United injury concern over star man after FA Cup semi loss as Farke reveals 45-minute limit
A Leeds United star became injured in the closing stages of the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.
Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson is an injury concern for Friday's clash with Burnley after picking up a problem late on in the FA Cup semi defeat by Chelsea.
The Swede lasted the distance but could scarcely run in the final couple of minutes as he visibly struggled with a hamstring problem. Captain Ethan Ampadu signalled to the bench that the left wing-back was unable to run, but he limped on to the end.
"Seems to be a hamstring injury, not great news, we have to assess him right now," said Daniel Farke after the game.
But Leeds did welcome back Anton Stach during the second half at Wembley. The midfielder had been missing since the FA Cup quarter-final when he was injured in a heavy, unpunished challenge against West Ham United. Farke introduced his compatriot at half-time against Chelsea though admitted 45 minutes was the absolute limit and had the Whites taken the game to extra-time Stach would have had to come off.
"He had ligament injury, was expected to be out until the beginning of May," said Farke. "On Friday he was back in team training, normally two sessions are not enough to take part but it was a special occasion and he's a special player for us so we went a bit against our principles. It's good to have him back, it will give him confidence in his body again. I was a bit concerned with 45 minutes, it was definitely not one minute longer possible. I perhaps would have had to take him off for extra-time anyway."
Leeds welcome the already-relegated Clarets to Elland Road on Friday knowing that another positive result or even two may be needed from the final four games to rubberstamp their Premier League status. The Whites sit 15th on 40 points, six clear of 18th-placed Tottenham Hotspur who grabbed their first win of 2026 at the weekend against relegated Wolves.
