Leeds United star Gabi Gudmundsson fires Everton warning and declares huge reason for hope
Injury doubt Gabi Gudmundsson has sized up Leeds United’s Monday night clash at Everton.
Leeds United star Gabi Gudmundsson has fired an Everton game warning but declared a ‘huge’ reason for hope on a new ground first.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke revealed at Thursday’s pre-match press conference that clear first choice left back Gudmundsson was a slight doubt for Monday night’s contest due to adductor problems.
Speaking before Farke’s team news update to BBC Radio Leeds, Gudmundsson warned that his men were facing another particularly tough Premier League away match at Everton, two-and-a-half weeks on from facing Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Leeds saw their seven-game unbeaten run ended at Newcastle in an eventful 4-3 defeat but only after an incredible 112th-minute Magpies winner from Harvey Barnes and Gudmundsson says his team’s display on Tyneside and overall “good path” at present provide big reason for hope heading to Everton.
“For sure it's a tough challenge,” warned Gudmundsson.
“But again, I think in the Premier League every away game is so difficult. But I think we are also on a good path at the moment.
“You could see that against Newcastle”
“We are doing really well against good opponents, you could see that against Newcastle which I think is one of the toughest games to go to at St James' Park to get something out of that. But we were so close with a really huge performance.
"We are away against a tough opponent but I think we are on a good path and hopefully we can continue like this."
Monday night’s contest will also represent United’s first ever fixture at Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium, something Gudmundsson admitted his players were looking forward to.
Asked how excited players got about going to a new stadium, Gudmundsson admitted: “It's going to be nice.
“I've seen it in pictures and it looks incredible and these days it's the thing, owners re-building or building new stadiums, you can see that and it's very nice to go there.
“It will be nice. Hopefully also a good game but a tough away game."
