Former Leeds United star lends huge hand to Whites' survival bid in blow for key rivals

A former Leeds United star has played a big hand in helping the Whites in their survival battle.

Former Leeds United star Georginio Rutter has lent a big hand to his former side’s battle for Premier League survival.

Rutter left Leeds in August 2024 for Brighton who took on United’s big survival rivals West Ham on Sunday in a 2pm kick-off at the Amex.

Leeds kicked three points clear of the Hammers with Saturday evening’s brilliant 3-3 draw against Liverpool at Elland Road but the Hammers looked poised to re-join the Whites on 15 points as Jarrod Bowen’s goal gave them a 1-0 lead at the Amex.

Quite the moment for Brighton first

Rutter, though, found quite the moment to bag his first goal of the season, netting from a tight angle in the 91st minute to ultimately seal his side a 1-1 draw and deny the Hammers all three points.

Victory would have taken the Irons out of the dropzone on goals scored above Nottingham Forest but the Irons stay second-bottom, two points behind fourth-bottom Forest and fifth-bottom Leeds.
