Leeds United hero's 'special' La Liga and Elland Road reunion ends with win amid two reds

A Leeds United reunion took place in Spain on Saturday with a pair of red cards and a shock result.

Elland Road hero Pablo Hernandez returned to one of the other loves in his life at the weekend, taking his CD Castellon side to Valencia for a pre-season friendly against LaLiga opposition.

Estadi Antonio Puchades, the home of Valencia B, played host to the fixture which saw Hernandez reunited with Valencia boss Carlos Corberan, who worked as one of Marcelo Bielsa's assistants during El Mago's time at Elland Road. But it was Hernandez who came out on top of the battle between the former Leeds men.

The second tier outfit took the lead through Raul Sanchez and then doubled their lead when Adam Jakobsen chipped home. Aliou Dieng pulled one back for Valencia, who had both Umar Sadiq and Dani Raba sent off during the friendly.

Castellon described the friendly as a 'special evening' for their coach, who came through Valencia's youth system and made 158 appearances for Los Che. The only side for whom he featured more times is Leeds United.

"Valencia and Leeds have been the clubs where I have spent the most time,” Hernandez told Flashscore in a past interview. “Obviously, those two clubs, along with Club Deportivo Castellón, are very important to me. There were five years [at Leeds] where I felt very loved, very important, where I managed to get promoted to the Premier League and where, the truth is, I really enjoyed myself as a player. Yes, obviously the clubs that are so important to me would be a dream [to manage], but it is something I am not considering at the moment. First, I want to learn a lot, I have a lot to learn, see if this is what really fulfils me and what I like, and in the future we will see what it holds.”
