"We'll see" - Enzo Maresca on Leeds United transfer target James Trafford and Man City sale stance
Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has been asked about Leeds United transfer target James Trafford.
New boss Enzo Mareseca has given the Manchester City viewpoint on Leeds United transfer target James Trafford - admitting anything can happen during a transfer window.
Leeds are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper and the club remain in discussions over a deal to bring number one target Trafford to Elland Road.
Trafford initially came through City’s Academy - including when Maresca was the club’s under-23s coach - but the keeper left the Manchester outfit in July 2023 to join Burnley for £15m.
After Trafford impressed for the Clarets, City then activated a buy-back clause to bring the keeper back to the Etihad last summer for £31m but Trafford only had limited gametime behind new first choice custodian Gianluigi Donnarumma.
“We’ll see, but at the moment he’s one of our keepers.”
Trafford’s future was always likely to be decided after this summer’s World Cup and David Ornstein reported on Thursday that the keeper was leaning towards a move to Leeds.
City are now into life after Pep Guardiola who departed the club at the end of last season and new boss Maresca fielded a question about Trafford’s future as he held an introductory press conference on Friday afternoon.
"I know James because he was my keeper when I was with the Under-23s, so I know James very good,” said Maresca, as quoted by City Xtra.
"But again, when the transfer window is open, now or in January, anything can happen.
“So we’ll see, but at the moment he’s one of our keepers.”
