Leeds United message as former Whites promotion winner announces retirement

A Leeds United promotion winner has announced his retirement.

Leeds United have sent a message to a popular ex-Whites promotion winner who has announced his retirement from the game.

France-capped midfielder Josuha Guilavogui joined Leeds as a free agent signing in October 2024 as the Whites looked to add depth and cover to their midfield in the club’s promotion quest.

Guilavogui went on to make 18 appearances for Leeds, the experienced Frenchman getting 16 Championship outings from the bench and starting the FA Cup clashes against Harrogate Town and Millwall.

Guilavogui made a particularly big impact off the pitch and received glowing messages from his former team mates as he departed the Whites at the end of the season.

One year on, the 35-year-old has now announced his retirement from professional football, Leeds United quick to pay tribute to their former promotion winner.

Taking to social media, Guilavogui wrote: “Dear Football. You'll certainly forget me just as you did with others greater than me, but in their image, I will never forget you.

“I take my share of recognition and happiness. It's time to write THE famous phrase. I'm hanging up my boots. Thank you Football.”

Leeds United were quick to send a message themselves, posting a photograph of Guilavogui kissing the Championship trophy together with the message: “Everyone at #LUFC wishes @JossGuilavogui a very happy retirement and congratulates him on a fantastic career.”
