"Very good option" - Former Leeds United star on Whites midfield transfer target and squad need
An ex-Leeds United star has given a thumbs up to a Whites midfield transfer target.
Former Leeds United star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has given his thumbs up to a Whites midfield transfer target who he thinks would add much-needed experience to the squad.
Leeds are interested in signing 30-year-old Germany international midfielder Julian Brandt who has become a free agent this summer upon his contract at Borussia Dortmund expiring.
The Whites are believed to be in discussions with representatives of Brandt but know there will be competition for his signature, including from teams playing European football.
Speaking to 10bet, former Leeds star Hasselbaink assessed United’s interest in Brandt, sharing his view that the midfielder would be a “very, very good option” as he cited a need for more experience in the squad ahead of the club’s second season back in the Premier League.
“A very, very good option”
“Well, it brings top-level experience. It brings real experience, and they can always use that,” said Hasselbaink.
“I think they have done exceptionally well this year, finishing the season really, really well. Now it’s all about building on that.
“How can they ensure they stay away from the bottom five all year long? Because at the beginning of last season, they were flirting with that relegation zone until they went to Man City and changed a few things.
“So it’s going to be very important that they strengthen themselves in different areas and bring in plenty of know-how. From that perspective, Brandt is a very, very good option.”
