Leeds United latest news: Whites star 'not ready' to start Wales clash & Ao Tanaka cup final updates

The latest Leeds United news as we edge closer to the return of Premier League football.

We are edging towards the return of Premier League football and what a game Leeds United have on the horizon.

The Whites head to Premier League champions Arsenal on Saturday looking to continue their unbeaten start to the league season. It will be one of their biggest challenges of the campaign at a place where they were thumped 5-0 just over a year ago.

It has felt like an eternity since Daniel Farke’s side drew 0-0 at home to Crystal Palace, with the extended international break turning two weeks off into three. A number of countries still have football to play but we should start to see some internationals returning soon.

Expected to arrive pretty swiftly are Ethan Ampadu and Daniel James, whose Wales side lost 1-0 at home to Denmark on Sunday afternoon. Midfielder Ampadu impressed despite the defeat but there was no opportunity for James to get more minutes.

Speaking after the game, manager Craig Bellamy said he’d have liked to have started James following his goal in the win over Norway on Thursday. But the Leeds winger is still having to be carefully managed. Under-21s star Jayden Lienou was an unused substitute again.

That was it for Leeds-related action on Sunday but there’s more to look forward to today. Ao Tanaka’s Japan are first up when they face New Zealand in their Kirin Cup final, having beaten Ecuador on penalties last week.

Fresh of facing one another in a 1-1 draw, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Tarik Muharemovic will also be in action for their respective nations tonight. Sweden travel to Romania while Bosnia and Herzegovina host Poland.

Looking further ahead and back to club football, Leeds’ weekend hosts Arsenal received an injury boost over the weekend with the return to training of three defenders. Ben White, Piero Hincapie and Yerson Mosquera could all be fit to feature at the Emirates.
