Leeds United latest news: International goals as Whites & rivals learn of damning Man City 115 charges verdict

The latest Leeds United news after a big night of international football and the emergence of one of football’s biggest ever stories.

It was a big night for Leeds United’s international stars last night but an even bigger night for the Premier League.

Five members of Daniel Farke’s squad were in action on Tuesday, the most notable being James Trafford who got his second start in goal for England against Czechia. And the 23-year-old bounced back from conceding three against Spain to keep a clean sheet in a comfortable 2-0 win.

Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane were on target for the Three Lions, with Czechia spending much of the game down to 10 men. There was no chance for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in Prague, the Leeds striker an unused substitute with Kane eventually replaced by Jude Bellingham.

Elsewhere on the Leeds front, Nico Elvedi enjoyed the best night as Switzerland beat Scotland 3-0 in their Nations League clash. The centre-back even grabbed himself a goal to make it 2-0 with a lovely finish.

Fellow summer arrival Jean-Matteo Bahoya also got himself on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win for France Under-21s against Estonia Under-21s. The speedy winger initially started on the bench but replaced the injured Ethan Mbappe early on before scoring his country’s second goal on 68 minutes.

There was no goal for Jaka Bijol but the centre-back did keep a clean sheet in the heart of a back three as Slovenia beat North Macedonia 2-0, while Ilia Gruev got 90 minutes under his belt in Bulgaria’s 0-0 draw with Estonia. Jean-Matteo Bahoya was an unused substitute in France Under-21s.

But across the world of football last night, there was only one talking point. After a few days of reports, the Premier League confirmed Manchester City had been found guilty of all charges regarding a breach of financial rules after boosting their income by more than £900million over a nine-year period.

The bombshell announcement arrived on Tuesday evening and its assessment of City’s activity was damning. The serial Premier League champions are said to have arranged ‘sham contracts’ to artificially inflate revenues and reduce costs, while witnesses are also judged to have given evidence ‘they knew to be untrue and so had been dishonest’.

City are expected to appeal the decision while a separate hearing takes place regarding punishments. It remains to be seen what happens next in this incredible story but Leeds and other Premier League rivals will no doubt be keeping the closest of eyes on it all.
