Leeds United reject surprise transfer approach for summer arrival despite form difficulties

Leeds United have rejected a surprise transfer approach.

Leeds United have rejected an approach for one of their goalkeeping trio.

The YEP understands that Turkish outfit Beşiktaş showed interest in Lucas Perri, who only arrived at Elland Road in the summer.

Perri was brought in to be Daniel Farke's starting keeper, though was hindered by a niggling injury from the outset and then picked up another knock after the season began.

It was Perri's form however that cost him his place in the starting line-up, after public criticism from Farke over goals conceded against Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Decision was criticised

Farke was critical of Perri's decision making for Man Utd's equaliser in an Elland Road draw and deemed Harvey Barnes' winner a few days later as a shot he would expect his keeper to save.

Karl Darlow, who deputised for Perri during his brief injury absence, came back in between the sticks for the Derby County FA Cup tie and has stayed there ever since.

Farke said he wanted to take Perri out of the spotlight and give him a chance to rediscover his form in training.

But Leeds have not been tempted to shift Perri on in the January window and rejected the approach from Beşiktaş.

Illan Meslier, who also lost his place to Darlow last season for the title run-in, has not attracted interest in the window and looks set to remain as third-choice keeper at Leeds.
