"It felt like" - Striker's Leeds United vs Sunderland fans observation with 'strange thing' and message

A Leeds United attacker’s thoughts on the support as his side faced Sunderland in New Jersey.

Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha has hailed the club’s support in the USA with a Sunderland match observation and “strange thing” that he’s loving.

Nmecha was handed his first start of the summer as Daniel Farke’s Whites took on Sunderland at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey where Nmecha bagged the only goal of the game with just eight minutes on the clock.

The match marked United’s second of three friendlies as part of their pre-season tour of America, six days on from the 3-2 defeat to Wrexham at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Even out in the States, the Whites have been cheered on by their usual brilliant support, Nmecha declaring that it felt like only Leeds fans were in the stands for the friendly against the Black Cats.

“It felt like there were only Leeds fans here”

The striker says it’s “strange” to hear Leeds fans with American accents - yet it’s something the 27-year-old striker is loving.

Speaking to LUTV, Nmecha was asked if it was great to see United’s fans in their numbers and the forward beamed: "Definitely.

"I'm loving hearing the American accent from Leeds fans at the minute. It's quite strange. It's a strange thing.

"But the fans have been great. They were loud today, it felt like there were only Leeds fans here to be honest so it was quite nice."
