Leeds United Elland Road draw prompts defiant Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim outburst

Ruben Amorim's side were forced to come from behind to take a point from Leeds United on Sunday.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim issued a defiant refusal to quit after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United in which he felt his men had more chances to win it.

The Whites took a second half lead through Brenden Aaronson's composed strike but found themselves on level pegging again just three minutes later when Matheus Cunha beat Lucas Perri at the other end. Perri made one smart stop from a Leny Yoro header and his opposite number was at full stretch to deny Noah Okafor's overhead kick. But Leeds also hit the post through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin header and both Joel Piroe and Anton Stach fired over as the hosts finished the stronger side.

Amorim was content that his side were better at Elland Road than in their draw with bottom side Wolves.

"I think we did well, we improved a lot of things compared to the last game," he said. "We controlled quite well the aggressiveness of the offence from Leeds, controlled well one against one. A really fun environment. Players were in better positions to play. We had more chances than the opponent to score. We now need to think about the next one."

Amorim's press conference then took a turn with a question about his future prompting him to insist he was going nowhere and that he was a manager, not a head coach, for the remainder of his contract.

"You guys need to stop with that. I notice you get selective information on everything" he said. "I came here to be the manager, not the coach of Manchester United. That is clear. I know my name is not Tuchel, a Mourinho, a Conte, but it is going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change. That's my point. I'm not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming to replace me. If people cannot handle the Gary Nevilles and the criticisms of everything we need to change the club. I came here to be the manager, not the coach. I will do my job for 18 months and we will then move on."

The Man Utd boss said that every department at Old Trafford needs to do its job, citing the scouting department and sporting director, and then he walked out as further questions came his way.
