Mateusz Klich makes bold Leeds United v Manchester United prediction amid 'emotional' return
The Leeds United fan favourite was a guest at Elland Road for Sunday's meeting with Man Utd.
Leeds United promotion hero Mateusz Klich felt ‘emotional’ returning to Elland Road to watch his former side’s Premier League meeting with Manchester United on Sunday.
Klich was invited to attend the game by Leeds, who confirmed the news earlier this week. A statement urged fans to remain in their seats at half-time to honour the midfielder, who played 144 times for the Whites and won the 2019/20 Championship title under Marcelo Bielsa.
Now at boyhood club Cracovia in Poland, Klich is enjoying a winter break and spoke with TNT sports ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United. And the Whites hero spoke warmly of his return to a bitterly cold West Yorkshire ahead of kick-off.
“It’s really good to be back,” he said. “It’s been three years since I’ve been here and I couldn't wait to come back. Whenever I come here and see people smiling, they’re just happy I'm here and that’s why you play football. It’s beautiful.
“It’s a special place, there’s not many clubs like Leeds. The fans, Elland Road, the city. I fell in love with the club and the people who work here too. It’s a little bit emotional too.”
Klich remained a regular starter in the Premier League for Leeds but never enjoyed victory over Manchester United. The Whites haven’t actually enjoyed a Premier League win against their fierce rivals since 2002, although there was a famous FA Cup triumph in between.
Leeds are, however, heading into Sunday’s clash in great form with Thursday’s 0-0 draw at Liverpool extending their unbeaten run to six matches. That streak included convincing home wins over Chelsea and Crystal Palace with Klich expecting Daniel Farke’s side to enjoy similar success.
“I was thinking this would be the best game to come,” the Elland Road favourite added. “I hope Leeds are going to win because it’s been a long time since Leeds won against Manchester United. I’ll take 2-0, I want to see goals.”
