Club statement with Marcelo Bielsa favourite set for Leeds United return for Manchester United match

A Marcelo Bielsa favourite former-Whites ace is set for an Elland Road return.

Leeds United promotion-winner Mateusz Klich is set for a special Whites return for Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Manchester United at Elland Road.

Klich joined Leeds from FC Twente back in June 2017 and went on to form a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side that stormed to promotion as Championship champions in the 2019-20 campaign.

Klich, who made 144 appearances for the Whites, eventually departed the club in January 2023 ahead of a move to DC United but the former Whites star will be present for Sunday’s Roses derby against Manchester United as a pundit for Polish TV and introduced to his adoring fans at half-time.

“Supporters are urged to stay in their seats”

A Leeds United statement read: “At half-time in our clash against Manchester United on Sunday, supporters are urged to stay in their seats to welcome club legend Mateusz Klich back to Elland Road.

“During his time at Leeds, spelling from 2017 to 2023, Klich made 144 appearances for the Whites, scoring 21 times, as well as featuring for international side Poland.

“Mateusz was an integral part of Marcelo Biesla’s side that achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2020, a time in which he accumulated a 92-game streak of Sky Bet Championship starts.

“To celebrate the midfielder’s contributions to the club, Klich was commemorated with a guard of honour on his final appearance as his teammates donned shirts in his name to see him off.

“We are excited to welcome Mateusz back to Elland Road this weekend, and hope he enjoys the occasion.”
