Strong Leeds United at Newcastle United call made with clear expectation outlined amid unbeaten Whites run
Unbeaten in seven, Leeds United take on Newcastle United at St James' Park tonight.
A very strong call has been made on Leeds United's task at Newcastle United where the bookies firmly expect the team's impressive unbeaten run to finally end.
Leeds have beaten Chelsea and Crystal Palace during their seven-game unbeaten run and drawn with Manchester United, Sunderland, Brentford and Liverpool - twice in the case of the Reds after a goalless draw at Anfield and 3-3 thriller at Elland Road.
Five of the six teams that Leeds have played during those last seven games sit higher up the table than tonight's hosts Newcastle who start the day in ninth place.
That, though, has not stopped the bookies from making a very big call on tonight's game in the circumstances in making Eddie Howe's hosts very strong odds-on favourites to beat Daniel Farke’s Whites.
St James' Park is renowned as being something of a fortress yet the Magpies actually only sit sixth in the division's form table with Liverpool and Arsenal having both won at the ground where Chelsea and Tottenham left with draws.
The Magpies, though, could be turning a corner based on their recent form of back-to-back wins and seven points out of a last possible 12.
With Leeds ultimately still only third-bottom in the division's away table, the Magpies are consequently no bigger than 8-11 but as short as 13-20 to condemn Leeds to a first defeat since the 3-2 loss at Manchester City at the end of November.
Whites striker viewed as third best
In what might be viewed as decent odds, Farke's Whites can be backed at 9-2 to leave with a victory whilst the draw is on offer at 3-1.
Newcastle's Nick Woltemade heads the anytime scorer betting at 11-8, ahead of fellow Magpies striker Yoane Wissa at 6-4.
Whites no 9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin is then 5-2 - the same price as Newcastle's Harvey Barnes whose superb goalscoring record against Leeds is well documented.
With William Osula one of several Newcastle players out injured, Anthony Gordon is next at 14-5, followed by team mate Jacob Murphy at 10-3.
Leeds pair Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe are both 7-2, followed by teammate Noah Okafor at 4s.
As is often the case in correct score markets, a 1-1 draw is favourite on that front but only just at 7s, followed by a 1-0 win for Newcastle at 15-2 with both a 2-1 win for the Magies and 2-0 victory for Howe's men on offer ar 8s.
Leeds can be backed at 16s to leave with a 1-0 success whilst a repeat of August's goalless draw at Elland Road is on offer at 12s
