Leeds United reveal final Elland Road summer friendly with World Cup reunion for Whites star man
Leeds United have revealed yet another pre-season friendly fixture against 'big league' opposition and the final Elland Road outing of the summer.
The Whites will be tested by the pre-season programme that has been laid out in front of them, with three games against fellow Premier League sides, two against teams from another of Europe's 'big five' leagues and one Championship club.
In both of Daniel Farke's previous pre-seasons he and Leeds have trained in Germany and played matches against German sides, basing themselves at Hotel Klosterpforte in Harsewinkel, not far from where the Whites boss and family call their home. This summer the Germans are coming to him, at Elland Road.
Leeds confirmed this week that their game against RB Leipzig was finalised and would take place on Saturday August 8. That announcement has been followed with another and a second game against German top flight opposition in the form of FC Augsburg's visit to LS11. That game will take place at 3pm on Saturday August 15, a week prior to the start of the Premier League campaign.
FC Augsburg finished ninth in the Bundesliga table last season, just missing out on European football by four points. One of the highlights of their campaign was a shock come-from-behind win at Bayern Munich in January. Their visit will reunite Noah Okafor with his Swiss World Cup team-mate Fabian Rieder, who was Augsburg's top goalscorer last season and one of six of the Fuggerstädter's players involved in this summer's major tournament. Michael Gregoritsch of Austria, Croatia's Kristijan Jakić, Nathanaël Mbuku of DR Congo and Tunisia's Ismaël Gharbi and Elias Saad make up their World Cup compliment.
The Whites are off to America for this summer's training camp and a trio of fixtures against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool. They will also return to Dublin after the success of last summer's sold-out Aviva Stadium meeting with AC Milan, this time facing bitter rivals Manchester United at historic Croke Park.
Ticket information for the Leipzig and Augsburg fixtures will be announced in due course.
