Leeds United attacker closing in on season-long EFL loan and Thorp Arch reunion
Leeds United prospect Harry Gray is closing in on a season-long loan move to an EFL club, where he will be reunited with a familiar face.
Teenager Gray got his first taste of regular men’s football last season in his first loan move at League One strugglers Rotherham United. The 17-year-old played 20 times for the Millers and scored three goals but was unable to help them stave off relegation amid managerial change and injury problems throughout the squad.
The plan for Gray was always to go out on loan again for the 2026/27 campaign and Leeds opted for League One again, with Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday among the clubs keen to take him. The Owls have now won that race, with a deal close to being agreed between the clubs and the youngster on board with the move.
Wednesday are at the outset of an exciting new era having been taken over, despite their relegation into League One from the Championship. The move will reunite Gray with ex-Leeds captain Liam Cooper, who recently penned a new deal at Hillsborough after his short-term contract last season saw him feature 14 times. Gray will link up with Henrik Pedersen’s squad, who are already back in training, looking to add to his experience and play his part in what is expected to be a promotion bid.
His older brother Archie, another Thorp Arch academy product, is reportedly the subject of transfer interest from Newcastle United this summer with Tottenham Hotspur said to have rejected an initial offer. Should the older Gray brother move in the window there will be no windfall for Leeds. The YEP understands there was no sell-on clause in the deal that took him to north London.
