Leeds United transfer arrival gets 'crazy' sign of things to come from very first encounter
Leeds United newboy Harry Wilson has been given his first real taste of the club's 'crazy' fanbase at the team hotel in Tampa, Florida ahead of a defeat by Wrexham.
Wilson came off the bench at half-time of Leeds' pre-season opener in America and the free agent summer signing was a bright spark in a frustrating second half. Leeds conceded a late counter attack goal, scored by Sam Smith, to lose the game 3-2 but Wilson was not too downbeat about the performance. The Whites twice came from behind, having conceded inside the first 35 seconds.
"Disappointed to lose the game, but I feel for large parts of the game we we were the better team," he told LUTV. "Don't think I've seen a start like that for a while from a team, but I thought it was a great goal from them. I think after after that, the boys that played the first half really took control of the game and got ourselves back in it and probably should have gone in half half-time winning.
"We make a few few change half-time and thought we started the second half really, really well, controlled the half for long spells and then yeah it's disappointing to concede the counter attack quite late on. I think overall a good runout for our first game."
Wilson has had some time to get used to his new surroundings and team-mates, though he counts several of them as pals and colleagues from the Wales national team. What is completely new to him is the Leeds fanbase. They were there in numbers to show support in Tampa, even before Wilson and the squad arrived at the Raymond James Stadium.
"It's crazy," he said. "I think even before we left the hotel the lobby was full, and the send-off we got from the hotel was a real eye-opener for me. To turn up here today and see them here supporting and singing. I'm sure that's going to be a sign of things to come."
