Leeds United fan loses home and beloved dog in fire as efforts to help rebuild her life begin

Thousands of pounds have been raised to help a Leeds United fan rebuild her life after losing her home and one of her beloved dogs in a fire.

Molly Whitmore, a lifelong Whites supporter and Elland Road regular, was not in her house in the village of Tockwith when a dehumidifier caused the devastating fire and the death one of her dogs, Norman. Neighbour Jenny Greenall told the YEP: "We live down the same street and saw the smoke bellowing out of the back. There were already neighbours round there and the fire brigade had been called. It turned out it was a dehumidifier that had caused it. Molly is one of the trusted dog walkers in the village and boards animals too, she does so much to help everyone in the community with their animals."

Jenny's sister went through a similar experience and wanted to show support for Molly with a fundraising page. Donations have flooded in since the page went live, with £12,500 raised at the time the YEP went to print with this story.

The statement on the page reads: “I’m so sorry to share that Molly, one of our trusted dog walkers here in Tockwith, has lost her home in a devastating fire tonight. The fire was caused by a dehumidifier. Tragically, she has also lost one of her beloved dogs, Norman. It’s impossible to imagine what she’s going through right now. As a community, we’d really like to come together to support her during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, would help Molly begin to replace the essentials we often take for granted — things like clothing, toiletries, and everyday basics lost in the fire. If you’re able to help in any way, it would be deeply appreciated. “

Jenny told the YEP: "It's absolutely amazing how everyone's pulled together. I'm really shocked at how much has been raised already. My sister lost her house in a fire and she was insured but it didn't cover half the things she lost, so hopefully this money will help Molly just to rebuild her life again."
