Leeds United confirm new deal for versatile attacker with first team exposure

Leeds United have handed an 18-month contract to a young attacker who has been involved in Daniel Farke’s first team training sessions.

Rhys Chadwick is still just 18 but has experience of the senior environment at Leeds thanks to last summer’s involvement in Farke’s pre-season training camp in Germany and time spent with the first team at Thorp Arch.

The attacking midfielder has signed a new contract at Elland Road, keeping him with the club until the summer of 2027. A club statement said: “Leeds United are pleased to announce Rhys Chadwick has put pen to paper on a new contract with the club, keeping the attacking midfielder with the Whites until the end of the 2026/27 campaign. In three seasons with the Under-21s, Chadwick has 29 goal contributions in 51 games. He has featured 14 times so far this time around for the Scott Gardner’s side, appearing in the Premier League 2, Vertu Trophy, National League Cup and Premier League International Cup.

“Last term, Chadwick impressed against experienced opposition, with his four goals in the National League Cup proving crucial as the Whites went onto lift the trophy. Having risen through the youth system, the 18-year-old has also been in and around the senior squad, travelling with the team to their pre-season camp in Germany and often involved in first team training. Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Rhys on signing a new deal and we look forward to seeing his development over the coming seasons.”

This season Chadwick, who signed his first two-year professional contract in the summer of 2024, has two goals and an assist from eight Premier League 2 games. His goals came against Brighton and Reading. The youngster’s versatility has seen him perform in attacking midfield, central midfield, defensive midfield, on the right wing and even at centre-back this season. Chadwick’s journey through the Thorp Arch academy has been mirrored by that of team-mate and pal Sam Chambers. The pair have played together since the age of five and both got on the pitch for the senior side last summer in a friendly against Manchester United in Oslo.
