New Leeds United face extends brilliant run with fresh international triumph

A Leeds United ace has extended an already impressive run.

Leeds United new boy Nico Elvedi has extended an already impressive run with a fresh international triumph against a Whites teammate.

Versatile Swiss international defender Elvedi signed for Leeds from Borussia Monchengladbach towards the end of the summer transfer window, the 30-year-old joining the club having played every single minute of all six of Switzerland’s games at the World Cup as his country reached the quarter-finals.

Elvedi then made his Leeds debut as an early substitute in the 1-1 draw at home to Brentford at end of August, the Swiss defender replacing the injured Joe Rodon in the 34th minute.

Elvedi has been ever-present in the Premier League since, starting United’s last three league games before the international break before flying out to link up with the Switzerland national side ahead of four Nations League games.

Continuing his impressive run, the Leeds defender played the full 90 minutes of the first two Nations League games of the current break, both of which ended in 3-0 victories at Scotland and then North Macedonia.

Switzerland were then back on home soil on Saturday evening as they took on a Slovenia side featuring Elvedi’s Leeds teammate Jaka Bijol and Elvedi again played another full match as his side recorded another victory with a 2-1 success in which Bijol also played the full match for Slovenia.

It means Elvedi has now played every minute of Switzerland’s last nine games which have yielded six victories and three normal time draws.

The only defeat arrived via the 3-1 loss to Argentina after extra time the World Cup quarter-final.

Switzerland - ranked 12th in the world - finish the current bunch of Nations League games on Tuesday evening away at North Macedonia.
