Leeds United booked their place in the Carabao Cup third round after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Tuesday night. A second-half goal from Daniel James and a Neco Williams own-goal sent Daniel Farke’s side home from the City Ground with a second win in four days.
Chances fell at both ends during the first-half, the biggest for Chris Wood who after nutmegging Nico Elvedi, was primed to finish but for a goal-saving Joe Rodon tackle. Sean Longstaff had Leeds’ best opportunity after James got free down the right, but the midfielder was falling as he shot and a weak effort was collected by Matz Sels.
James opened the scoring six minutes into the second-half, finishing well beyond Sels and into the far corner after Longstaff pounced on some loose Forest play. And Williams put into his own net to double the away side’s lead with around 15 minutes remaining, although James Justin might be trying to claim it as his own.
