Premier League merit payments: How much Leeds United could earn with each position as £40m incentive emerges

A look at how much Leeds United could earn from Premier League merit payments based on their final position.

Leeds United could be mathematically safe before kick-off at Tottenham on Monday but Daniel Farke won’t allow any let up for his side’s final three games. The Whites boss admitted after beating Burnley on Friday he remains desperate to finish as high as possible and that sentiment was echoed by star man Anton Stach.

The unwavering professionalism of Farke’s squad will keep them honest but there is a financial incentive too, in the form of Premier League merit payments. In recent seasons, each position in the table has been worth close to £3million and while it is highly unlikely, Leeds could still finish the season as high as sixth.

Based on last season’s merit payments, as published by the Premier League, a 14th-placed finish could bank Leeds around £18.6m but aim for the stars, and that improbable - but not impossible - sixth spot could bank them close to £40m. Take a look below for the full earnings and what each position up the table could provide.
