Leeds United promotion hero Pablo Hernandez 'progressing' after post-surgery hospitalisation
Leeds United promotion hero Pablo Hernandez is recovering in hospital after his condition 'worsened slightly' following surgery five days ago.
The Spaniard is manager of second tier side CD Castellón who sit fourth in the table after a seven-game unbeaten streak and five straight wins. Hernandez underwent surgery for a kidney stone on Sunday prior to his side's 3-1 win over CD Mirandés on Monday, which he took charge of. But his club says he had to be hospitalised again on Tuesday as a precaution and he is still under medical supervision, but improving.
A club statement said: "CD Castellón reports that the manager underwent surgery for a kidney stone on Sunday, the 14th, prior to the match against CD Mirandés. Despite the surgery and his efforts to be able to lead the team in that game, his condition worsened slightly on Tuesday, the 16th, leading to his hospitalization as a precaution and for closer medical monitoring.
"At this time, Pablo Hernández is progressing favorably and remains under medical supervision, following the instructions of healthcare professionals."
Hernandez' media duties for their game on Sunday away at Cádiz will be taken by his assistant coach Sergi Ripollés, who also stepped in last week. The club say that Hernandez' presence at the game will depend on how he recovers in the coming hours.
A club spokesperson said: "CD Castellón would like to thank everyone for their support and affection, and we will continue to keep you informed of any relevant developments."
Hernandez was moved up from looking after the B team this season to become interim manager of the senior side, before earning the job on a permanent basis until the end of the season. Since he was named permanent boss Castellón are yet to drop a single point and they sit five points off LaLiga 2 leaders Racing.
