'Surge' sees Leeds United loanee take player of the month award as promotion is eyed
A Leeds United loanee has taken his club’s player of the month award.
A ‘late surge’ has led to a Leeds United youngster scooping his loan side’s player of the month award.
Scotland under-21s international keeper Rory Mahady joined National League side Scunthorpe United on a youth loan at the start of October and starred in a 3-1 win at York City on the same night as sealing his move.
Mahady - who was named in the division’s Team of the Week for that display - then did not feature for the Iron’s next five games but the decision was still taken to extend the 19-year-old’s youth loan with Andy Butler’s high-flying side.
Mahady was then back in the side for the FA Cup clash at Blackpool at the start of November and the Leeds loanee has since been ever present between the sticks in the six National League games that have followed.
Mahady played every minute of all four of Scunthorpe’s National League games in November and the teenager has now taken the club’s player of the month award with 45 per cent oft the votes. Scunthorpe say a “late surge” led to the Whites loanee topping the vote.
Scunthorpe sit sixth in the National League table, the Iron holding a seven-point cushion in the play-offs places and just six points behind leaders Rochdale.
