Young Leeds United midfielder Sam Chambers has sealed a deadline day loan move to a League Two side.

Chambers, 19, made his first-team debut as a second-half substitute in the Championship clash at home to Plymouth Argyle of November 2024 before starting February’s fourth round FA Cup clash at home to Millwall in which he played 70 minutes.

The Scotland youth international midfielder also made the bench for the club’s first game back in the Premier League at Manchester United for which he was an unused substitute, Chambers also getting on the bench for January’s FA Cup clash at Derby County.

Capped by Scotland up to under-19s level, the teenager has began the new season with two outings for United’s under-21s but Chambers is now set for experience of first team football upon joining League Two side Northampton Town on a season-long loan.

A statement from Leeds United read: “Leeds United can confirm Academy midfielder Sam Chambers will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Northampton Town.

“The highly rated 19-year-old heads to Sixfields Stadium in search of regular game time to gain valuable experience in senior football.

“The versatile youngster, who can play anywhere in midfield and across the attacking line, made his debut for the Whites in a 2024 Sky Bet Championship victory over Plymouth Argyle and followed that up with a first start at Elland Road in an Emirates FA Cup tie shortly afterwards.

“So far this campaign, Chambers has impressed for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s side, scoring against National League opposition Boreham Wood and grabbing two assists in the Premier League 2 victory over West Bromwich Albion Under-21s.

“Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Sam well during his time in Northampton and we will be monitoring his progress very closely.”
