Former Leeds United attacker joins ex-Whites coach in transfer reunion as rivals eye past Elland Road loanee
A former Leeds United coach has signed an ex-Whites attacker in a transfer reunion.
Former Leeds United coach Michael Skubala has moved quickly to sign an ex-Whites attacker in a Championship reunion.
Ex-Leeds under-21s boss and first team coach Skubala left Lincoln City to join Bristol City at the end of May and the Robins have unveiled former Whites attacker Sam Greenwood as the club’s second signing of the summer.
The pair worked together at Leeds, initially with the club’s under-21s with both then progressing to be involved with the first team.
Now 24 years old, Greenwood had spells away from Elland Road at Middlesbrough and Preston North End before leaving the club permanently to join Polish side Pogon Szczecin last summer.
In doing so, Greenwood became the most expensive player in the Polish side’s history but the attacking midfielder is now returning to English football in joining Bristol City for an undisclosed fee on a four-year deal.
Speaking to Bristol City’s official website, Skubala said: “Sam is exactly the kind of player we’re targeting.
“Young, driven and already has a lot of senior games under his belt. It’s brilliant to get him in and we’re looking forward to getting to work and watching him progress over the coming season.”
Greenwood said: “I am delighted to be here and I am really excited to get started. The ambition of the club has really got me excited and just having a look round the stadium gives me a real buzz and I have a fire in my belly to get started.
“I will give everything for the team and hopefully chip in with some goals and assists. I will do everything I can to help the team.”
In other transfer news, United’s Premier League rivals Brentford are also eyeing a former Whites man in the shape of an ex-Leeds loanee.
Jaidon Anthony spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Elland Road from Bournemouth before later joining Burnley on a permanent deal in May 2025.
The Clarets are now facing up to the return to Championship football but Bretford have now held initial talks with Burnley about signing both Anthony and also Clarets team mate Zian Flemming.
