"Seems to be" - Leeds United star's personal assessment after Liverpool outing impact and hope

A Leeds United midfielder’s personal assessment after his Liverpool outing.

Sean Longstaff has reflected on his impressive start to Leeds United’s pre-season - and a personal approach that definitely seems to be working.

Midfielder Longstaff immediately impressed in United’s first friendly against Wrexham despite his side falling to a 3-2 defeat and the former Newcastle United man then helped his side to their first victory of the summer through a 1-0 win against Sunderland in which he once again started.

Longstaff then dropped to the bench for the final USA tour friendly against Liverpool on Sunday which looked set to end in defeat as Andoni Iraola’s Reds took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Longstaff, though, then helped transform United’s fortunes, the midfielder brought on for the second-half and playing a key role in a brilliant comeback 4-2 success in which he bagged his second goal of the summer.

The 28-year-old has undoubtedly been one of United’s standout players from their USA tour, Longstaff now hoping his form continues through an approach of merely trying to enjoy his football and show what he is capable of.

“It seems to be going ok at the minute so hopefully that continues!”

Speaking to LUTV, Longstaff said: “On the pitch, I try make the most of it and show what I can do, just trying to enjoy it as much as I can.

“It seems to be going ok at the minute so hopefully that continues!”

The midfielder also says United finally taking their chances after missing first half opportunities proved the key to Sunday’s win against Reds.

“First half still had good bits but obviously probably the key moments went to them,” he reasoned.

“Then the second half, yeah, I think the ones who came on had nothing really to lose, just try to be as positive as possible.

“You can be nothing but happy. We took advantage of some set pieces and ultimately took the chances when they came.

“I think we had chances in the first half, that goalie made a couple of good saves and we put a couple wide, and then in the second half they just seemed to go in.”
