Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter has not been selected in France's provisional squad at this summer's Olympic Games which will be hosted in Paris.

France Under-21 manager Thierry Henry has named his squad for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this summer, selecting two overage players in former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta ahead of Leeds' Rutter.

The 22-year-old was recently recalled to France's U-21 setup under Henry, on the back of performances in the Championship with United. Formerly of German club TSG Hoffenheim, self-styled Georginio recorded 16 assists as Leeds fell agonisingly short of promotion back to the Premier League during 2023/24.

Rutter has not made Henry's pre-Olympic training camp squad and will therefore be spared additional match action at this summer's tournament. The competition is scheduled to be played between Friday, 26 July and Sunday, 11 August, meaning Georginio may have been unavailable for Leeds' Championship season opener on the weekend of Saturday, 10 August 2024, if Les Bleuets progress.

France have named a strong group for their home Olympic campaign and will be in with a strong chance of silverware at the end of the tournament in mid-August. Palace pair Mateta and Michael Olise have both been named among the country's list of attackers.

Since 1996, men's Olympic squads are limited to players aged 23-or-under, with three overage exceptions permitted.

Henry's preliminary Olympics squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Lucas Chevalier, Obed Nkambadio, Guillaume Restes, Robin Risser
