Leeds United summer transfer timing expectation as 'nonsense' verdict is delivered on reported deal

Reports have already started to emerge surrounding Leeds United's supposed summer plans.

Leeds United expect the timing of some of this summer's transfer business to be impacted by the World Cup and club sources have rubbished reports of an early deal for one particular player.

Despite suggestions from transfer-focused journalists and media outlets, Leeds United are not making a move for Japan international Hidemasa Morita. The midfielder is coming to the end of his contract at Sporting, for whom he has played 163 times including Champions League and Europa League outings, and reports have gone as far as to say Leeds are in advanced talks, or close to completing a deal.

But the 30-year-old is not a player Leeds have even looked at or maintained an interest in. His age and profile are not a fit for what the Whites are looking for and club sources say that links with the player are 'nonsense.'

And while behind the scenes the recruitment team are busy putting together lists and profiling potential targets, Leeds supporters can take with a pinch of salt any suggestions that the club is closing in on completed deals at this stage. Three games remain in the Premier League season and top flight status is not yet mathematically secured.

The summer transfer window does not open for another five weeks and there is an expectation this year that the summer window may drag on due to the World Cup. Many deals, not just at Leeds, are likely to be completed after the major tournament.
