Leeds United getting strong fresh backing for Sunderland trip amid firm view on rivals
Leeds United’s next Premier League games takes them to a Sunderland side sat bottom after seven games played.
Leeds United have received strong fresh backing for Sunday’s trip to Sunderland amid a big difference in the longer term season forecast versus the Black Cats.
The Whites and Black Cats were ultimately promoted together from the 2024-25 Championship, Leeds going up as Championship champions and Sunderland winning the play-offs after defeating Sheffield United in the play-off final.
Leeds had finished 24 points ahead of fourth-placed finishers Sunderland but the Black Cats then enjoyed an incredible first season back in the Premier League, eclipsing even United’s impressive year as they qualified for the Europa League with a seventh-placed finish.
Sunderland finished last season seven points and seven places higher than Leeds but the Wearsiders were then chalked up as among the favourites for relegation from the 2026-27 season and the Black Cats are now bottom seven games in.
Leeds, meanwhile, have only been beaten by defending champions Arsenal and the bookies have now issued fresh backing for Farke’s Whites in making them pretty strong favourites to beat Sunderland despite being away from home.
Farke’s side are as short as 11-8 with some firms and no bigger than 13-10 whereas Sunderland can be backed at 11-5. The draw is on offer at 23-10.
There’s also now a huge difference between the Whites and Black Cats on the relegation odds front.
A Leeds team currently sat seventh with ten points from their first ten games are now as big as 28-1 to go down and no shorter than 16s with any firm.
The bookies, though, are forecasting a real fight for survival for Sunderland who are 11-4 fifth favourites to go down, just behind Ipswich Town (5-2), Manchester City who are just 10-11, Coventry City (4-5) and Hull City at 8-11.
Whites no 9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also favourite in the any time scorer market for Sunday’s game at 9-5, ahead of Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey at 9-4.
