Tomas Soucek eyes Leeds United final day 'miracle' with West Ham match comparison hope
West Ham must beat final day visitors Leeds United and hope for an Everton favour at Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham star Tomas Soucek is eyeing a final day Leeds United miracle with a historic Irons match comparison hope.
Soucek’s side are heading into Sunday’s last day of the Premier League season sat two points from safety, the Irons needing to beat Leeds and also Everton to win at Tottenham Hotspur in order to survive.
Soucek, though, says his team’s dramatic victory in the 2023 Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina in Prague offers hope that another ‘miracle’ can ultimately keep his team up.
Speaking to West Ham’s official website, Soucek said: “Obviously it’s not in our hands, so it will be difficult for our fans to watch it and to concentrate on our result and on other results as well.
“But as players we have to be professional and concentrate only on our performance and win the game, get our job done and then hope that obviously other results will help us and save us in the league.
“This can be even like one of the best days for recent years. If we do it, if we make it, I would compare it to the same mood as in Prague.
“We have to think only about winning because, whatever happens, we want to finish with the win in our last game of the season at home and give the fans the best performance we can do. We also hope that it can save us in the league, but the first thing is we need to do our job.”
“I compare this game a lot to the Prague game, that a miracle can happen”
Soucek added: “I totally understand the fans that they are frustrated.
“I am also frustrated because I don’t want to be in this position and they want the best of us.
“If they didn’t care it would be bad because we want them to be passionate, so that’s a good thing in this kind of game.
“We all know we need them on our side because we know how important they are and hopefully London Stadium can be as loud as it was against Sevilla.
“I compare this game a lot to the Prague game, that a miracle can happen, so we just need to be all together and get the three points.”
