"Never" - Key Leeds United rivals hit by huge fresh blows as boss makes amazing declaration with apology

Key Leeds United rivals have been hit by huge fresh blows.

Leeds United’s key Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have suffered big fresh blows, accompanied by an apology from their under fire boss.

Troubled Tottenham are still seeking their first league win of 2026, a terrible run of results leaving the club fifth-bottom, two points behind 15th-placed Leeds and just one point clear of the dropzone.

Spurs, though, remain in Europe, attentions turning back to the Champions League on Tuesday evening with a Champions League round of 16 first leg clash away at Atletico Madrid.

The evening, though, proved another one to forget for Tottenham who found themselves 3-0 down after just 15 minutes, after which keeper Antonin Kinsky was substituted with just 17 minutes on the clock.

In a surprise move, Kinsky had been brought into the XI to replace Guglielmo Vicario but two awful errors from Kinsky led to two of Atletico’s opening goals and Vicario was quickly brought on to replace him.

Atletico went on to lead 4-1 at the break en route to a 5-2 victory in which Spurs were dealt an additional double blow in the closing stages as Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha clashed heads.

“It’s like everything is going wrong”

Speaking post match, boss Igor Tudor admitted it felt like everything was going wrong for his team and issued an apology to the club’s supporters.

Tudor, though, called for his men to stay together ahead of Sunday’s return to Premier League action at Liverpool as he eyed “ amazing, incredible things”.

As quoted by Tottenham Hotspur’s official website, Tudor said: “I need to apologise to the fans, to everyone. It’s incredibly difficult to explain, at least for the first 20 minutes, I've never seen in my life, things like this. It’s very strange to explain.

“I’m sorry for Toni also. I need to talk to him, to preserve him, to help him, to help the team. It was not a nice thing, but Toni understands. He's a very good goalkeeper, a very good guy.

“So, we need to stay together now, try to help each other in a difficult moment. It’s very difficult to explain, It's like everything is going wrong, even in the end, this headache with two players now (Cuti Romero and Joao Palhinha clashed heads late in the game), and we're going to see what we do for Liverpool - amazing, incredible things.”

Asked if he’d spoken to Kinskey, Igor added: “Of course, you understand everything. it's a big lesson. It has unfortunately happened in this big game. We need to be supportive. It's not even about him, it's about us. We need to keep working.”
