Sunderland defender Trai Hume on the goalless draw against Leeds United and a star’s brilliant display at the Stadium of Light.
Trai Hume saluted Sunderland improvement and a ‘brilliant’ star in his assessment of Sunday’s goalless draw against Leeds United at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland approached Sunday’s visit of Leeds sat bottom of the Premier League table having lost their last four league games but the Black Cats stopped the rot by taking a point against Daniel Farke’s Whites in a 0-0 stalemate played in atrocious windy conditions.
Speaking to Sunderland’s official website, Hume hailed the draw as a step back in the right direction for his side, admitting conditions were no help in his assessment of an “even” game.
Both teams had chances to bag a winner and Hume served up praise for Sunderland’s keeper Robin Roefs for his role in ensuring the Black Cats kept a clean sheet.
“Last season, we prided ourselves on being together and defensively strong, and we were back to that today,” said Hume.
“It was definitely an improvement. We haven’t been at our usual standard, but it was good to see that back today.
“The wind played its part and it probably showed in the game. I thought it was even throughout.”
Saluting the display of Roefs, Hume added: “Robin is back to his best and he made some brilliant saves today. It is great to have a confident goalkeeper behind us.”
